THE SELECT GENES
INDIVIDUAL EMBRYO PROCESS

We are giving breeders access to world-class maternal genetics – in a way that has never been available.

THE DETAILS

How does the Frozen Embryo Purchase program work?

Buyers purchase a pre-made frozen embryo directly from the Select Genes website. In contrast to our original Select Genes program, this purchase option allows you to buy ONE embryo at a time, which can help our buyers on a controlled budget. These embryos are already created and stored in a lab, ready for implantation. A $2,000 non-refundable deposit is required per embryo, covering the costs associated with creating and freezing the embryo.

The buyer selects an embryo, implants it in a recipient mare, and if the pregnancy is confirmed at fifty-five (55) days, the remaining balance is due. If the embryo does not result in a 55-day pregnancy, the buyer may purchase another embryo of the same cross for an additional $2,000, subject to availability and Select Genes’ approval.

What additional fees can I expect on top of the purchase price listed on the website?

In addition to the purchase price of the frozen embryo, buyers should budget for the following costs:

  • Stallion Breeding Fee – This fee is due according to the stallion’s contract. Some stallions require payment at 55 days confirmed in foal, while others require payment after the foal is born. Be sure to review the individual stallion’s contract for specific terms.

  • Recipient Mare Costs – Whether your provide your own recipient mare or lease one, there will be costs associated with implanting the embryo, leasing the mare, etc.

There are no additional fees from Select Genes unless additional embryos are needed. For example, if you purchase a $10,000 embryo, you will pay a $2,000 deposit to have the ability to implant the embryo, followed by an $8,000 payment at 55 days if the embryo results in a confirmed pregnancy. If the first implant does not work, you may choose to implant another embryo (if available) for an additional $2,000 deposit per attempt, meaning the total amount paid to Select Genes could be $12,000 if two embryos are needed to achieve a pregnancy.

Can you handle the entire process for me?

Yes! In partnership with Solo Select, we can manage everything from implantation to foaling out your new baby. With the largest recipient mare herd in the world, Solo Select can assist you every step of the way, ensuring a smooth and successful process.

What happens if the implanted embryo does not result in a 55-day pregnancy?

If the first implanted embryo does not develop into a 55-day pregnancy, the buyer has the option to purchase another embryo of the same cross for an additional $2,000, provided that one exists and Select Genes approves.

Where can the embryo be implanted?

The embryo must be implanted at a Select Genes-approved recipient mare facility. If the buyer wishes to use their own recipient mare, the implantation must still take place at an approved facility. Solo Select will have recipient mares available specifically for these Select Genes embryos if needed.

When does the buyer assume full responsibility?

Once the recipient mare is confirmed in foal at fifty-five (55) days, the buyer assumes full responsibility, including all risk of loss. The contract is considered fulfilled at this point. While not required, the buyer is encouraged to obtain insurance for the pregnancy.
