The multiple-time aged event Open Champion, Ms Baby Cakes, is poised to become one of the cutting industry’s next blue-hen mares. We are thrilled to be able to offer this mare through Select Genes, Ms Baby Cakes is a highlight of this program – one of the most elite mares we have had the chance to offer. Earner of over $227,720, her oldest foals are two year olds in excellent programs.
This mare had been a winner from day one, but that is no surprise with her strong genetics. Sired by the great stallion Metallic Cat and out of one of the greatest cutting mares of all time, Special Nu Baby. Special Nu Baby was one of those mares that made everyone crowd the arena fence line when she walked into the pen to cut, her athleticism and ability to read a cow was on a whole different level. In her career she won $482,061 and so far she has produced earners of $916,435. Ms Baby Cakes is a caliber you don’t often get the chance to own a foal out of, and now you can! Her fee is private, please contact us if you are interested in buying an aspiration.
Raised by Barker Ranch Cutting Horses, the 2015 bay mare by Metallic Cat out of NCHA Hall of Fame mare Special Nu Baby by Dual Rey was a finalist in the NCHA’s Open Futurity, winning the first go under Cox. Ms Baby Cakes was also the West Texas Open Derby Champion, Cotton Stakes Open Derby Champion, Breeders Invitational Open Classic Co-Reserve Champion, and made countless other Open Finals throughout her career.
“She was very capable of winning rounds or finals or whatever,” Cox said. “This mare peeked at the right time as a 3-year-old, and she’s still exceptional and sound to show to this day. She was always mature physically and mentally about her job. If you gave her the opportunity, she was going to do well. And she can still go on and win for any level of competitor.”
Not only is the mare’s own black-type impressive, her maternal sister-Baby Talk by Smooth Talkin Style-also picked up $281,843 in NCHA earnings, including a fourth-place check at the NCHA Open Futurity and two Abilene Spectacular Open Classic Championships. Their first dam, Special Nu Baby, earned a massive $482,061 as an NCHA World Champion and as a finalist at the NCHA Open Futurity. Her oldest crop of colts is 2 this year, including two fillies by Hottish that will both return to Cox to compete as a 3-year-olds.
“One is in training with Travis Stewart, the other with TJ Good,” Cox said. “They’re both in exceptionally capable hands right now, and we’re looking forward to the future with these babies.”
“Mares like Ms Baby Cakes are the kind that we built our program with the dream to offer,” Solo Select’s Melanie Smith said. “Her abilities in the arena are beyond reproach, and the sky is the limit as far as what she can produce and how she can affect the future of the cutting industry.”
